Tolkien Reading Day is celebrated on the 25th March each year, the date on which the One Ring was destroyed, completing Frodo and Sam’s quest and vanquishing Sauron. It has been organised by the Tolkien Society since 2003 to encourage fans to celebrate and promote the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien by reading favourite passages.
The theme for 2025 is “Fellowship and Community”.
Fellowship and community are such vibrant themes throughout Tolkien’s life and legendarium. From the teenage brotherhood of the T.C.B.S., to the companionship of The Fellowship of the Ring, to the camaraderie of those enjoying LotRO together, or the warmth of shared interest in Tolkien’s works enjoyed at OzMoot.
Our next Hern Ennorath meeting is on Thursday 20th March. You are invited to read aloud a favourite passage which you enjoy and find especially meaningful. It can be related to the theme “Fellowship and Community.” Short or long-ISH passage will be appreciated by all.
